How our foundation repair referrals work
A plain explanation of what we do, what we don't, and how the site is paid for.
The short version
Collin County Foundation Guide is an information and referral service. We are not a foundation repair contractor and we are not engineers. When you send a request, we connect you with an independent foundation repair company that serves your city. That company talks to you directly, inspects the house, quotes the job, and does the work if you decide to go ahead.
Step by step
- You tell us what you're seeing. Use the request form. A few details help: the city, whether the house is on a slab or pier and beam, roughly when it was built, and what you've noticed (cracks, sticking doors, sloping floors).
- We connect you with a local company. We pass your request to an independent foundation repair company that works in your area. We don't sell the same request to a long list of companies.
- The company contacts you. It arranges an inspection and gives you a written quote. Scheduling, pricing, the repair plan and the warranty are set by that company, not by us.
- You decide. You're free to get an independent engineer's opinion first, compare quotes, or say no. You never owe us anything.
What it costs
Using this site and asking for a referral is free for you. Foundation repair companies may pay us a fee for referrals. That's how the site, including the free guides, is funded. What we do, and what we don't
We do:
- Publish general guides to help you understand foundations and repairs before anyone quotes
- Connect you with an independent foundation repair company for your location
- Keep the information you share to what's needed to make that connection (see our privacy policy)
We don't:
- Perform, supervise or inspect foundation work
- Diagnose your house or recommend a repair (that's engineering work; hire a Texas-licensed professional engineer)
- Set prices, guarantee availability, or stand behind any company's warranty
- Take payment for foundation work
- Represent any city, county or engineer
An independent engineer comes first
The Texas engineering board has said that analyzing the cause of a foundation problem and recommending repairs is engineering practice (TBPELS advisory opinion 43). The cities we cover require a Texas-licensed engineer's sealed design to permit a repair. You can hire your own engineer, independent of any repair company, before you get quotes. Checking the company yourself
Texas doesn't license foundation repair contractors, so there's no license number to look up. Check the business, its BBB record, its insurance (with the insurer, not just a certificate), the city permit and the written warranty. Our checklist for choosing a contractor walks through each one.

Why not just search for a foundation company myself?
You absolutely can, and our guides are useful either way. Search results for foundation repair are crowded with national lead sites and companies with virtual offices, so a local referral can save time, and our guides help you know what to ask.
Will lots of companies call me?
No. We don't auction your request to a list of companies. We connect you with one suitable local company at a time.
Who is responsible for the work?
The foundation repair company that carries it out, and the engineer who designs and signs off the repair. They set the price and the plan and stand behind the warranty. We're not a party to your agreement with them.
Can you tell me if my foundation needs repair?
No. We're not engineers, and diagnosing a specific house is engineering work in Texas. A Texas-licensed professional engineer can; you can verify a license at pels.texas.gov.
What if I'm not happy with the company?
Raise it with the company first, in writing. Please also let us know, because we use feedback to decide who we refer people to. You can also file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division or the Better Business Bureau.
